The rumors have been validated! HBO rejects the Kovalev vs Alvarez rematch
After airing Sergey Kovalev’s last 14 fights via live network or pay-per-view, 3kingsboxing.com has learned that HBO has declined the option to air the rematch with Eleider Alvarez.
Kovalev was stopped in the seventh round earlier this month. He was up on all three cards at the time of the stoppage before Alvarez landed a powerful right hand.
Although HBO declined to pickup the rematch, Kathy Duva has come out and stated she’s still in talks with the network.
Kathy Duva had this to say on the matter:
“There’s a quirk in the contract and basically it gives them the right to that fight for a much higher number than they would wanna pay.
“So what they’re doing is just a maneuver in negotiations. They still have the right to match [another offer]. They’re just keep their options open. That’s basically what they’re doing. They have the matching rights.”
3kingsboxing.com will continue to monitor the situation and will update you as more information becomes available.
