Yamanaka retires due to a serious medical condition

Ryuya Yamanaka, former WBO minimumweight champion, announced his retirement from the sport today at the age of 23.

The diagnosis of a brain bleed was revealed after an unsuccessful title defense against Filipino Vic Saludar in July. He experienced some disorientation and checked into a hospital after the fight.

The Japan Boxing Commission (JBC) tasks a physician to monitor fighters licensed under their commission. The commission will have the right to revoke the license they grant to any fighter showing signs of cerebral hemorrhaging.

Yamanaka finishes his career with a record of (16-3, 5KOs). He was able to achieve world champion status with one title defense in his short career.

3kingsboxing.com would like to send our best wishes to Ryuya Yamanaka in life after boxing.
