Eddie Hearn Says Canelo vs Caleb Plant Could Be On A Different Network!

Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has been delighted working with Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (56-1-2, 38ko) in making two huge super middleweight championship fights. Alvarez has been on a tear since parting ways with Golden Boy Promotions in 2020. He is looking to make history by becoming the first-ever undisputed super middleweight champion and Hearn feels the undisputed fight can happen on either DAZN or on Premier Boxing Champions partner network.

Canelo holds all the belts in the division but one, which is currently around the waist of IBF champion Caleb “Sweet Hands” Plant (21-0, 12ko). Shortly after making former WBO champion Billy Joe Saunders quit on his stool from a fractured eye socket, Alvarez waisted little time in revealing what the next move will be by calling out Plant.

“That’s the plan! To go for the belts, and I’m coming man! I’m coming my friend!”

Plant has not been shy about wanting the fight either. He was all set to fight the Mexican unified champion back in December 2020. However, the bout had to be put off due to time constraints of promoting such a huge event that could not be allocated for a good buildup.

The IBF champion remained confident the bout will take place. Earlier this year, he made it clear that both teams are on board with making the fight. PBC backed up that claim with a social media post putting their stamp of approval on making the fight happen.

OPEN TO ANY NETWORK

Hearn is fully aware of all the moving parts involved in making a fight of this magnitude. During an interview with Little Giant Boxing, he made it clear the fight is not just restricted to DAZN and could happen under the PBC banner.

“At the end of the day, this fight is about Caleb Plant. So what we have to do is look at the best opportunities for Saul and the PBC has to look at the best opportunities for Caleb. We have to look at the money offer from DAZN and the money offer from Fox. We have to make the right decision that everybody is happy with.”

“The great thing about Saul being a network free agent is he has the ability to fight anybody he wants, wherever he wants.”

“This is just about the undisputed fight. We should allow the fighters to be free to enter these kinds of fights to create their own legacy, and make as much money as possible. This is not about promoters, this is not about networks. It is about saying to the fighters ‘this is your moment.’

“We are ready to do the fight wherever it needs to be done.”
