Eddie Hearn Claims Dmitry Bivol vs Joshua Buatsi May Happen Next
One of the more signature moments of 2022 took place in May when WBA light heavyweight champ Dmitry Bivol (21-0, 11 KOs) defeated undisputed super middleweight champ Canelo Alvarez (58-2-2, 39 KOs) by unanimous decision. Since there is a standing rematch clause, many observers are under the assumption that Bivol and Alvarez’ next fight will be against each other in a rematch. However, WBA #1 ranked contender Joshua Buatsi may get a crack at Bivol first!
Bivol’s promoter is Eddie Hearn was on the DAZN Boxing Show and gave an update on the status of Bivol. He did reveal Team Alvarez has reached out to him about a possible rematch with Bivol. However, the undisputed champ is still on the mend from wrist surgery. His next fight will likely be at 168 against WBO mandatory challenger John Ryder. That would mean a rematch with Bivol would not happen until possibly September 2023.

LOOKING TO STAY ACTIVE
The light heavyweight champion is coming off a clear-cut unanimous decision win over mandatory challenger Gilberto Ramirez in November 2022. Hearn disclosed what could be upcoming for his fighter.
“We also need to provide Dmitry Bivol in the meantime, with a voluntary defense of his 175-pound title because he’s not going to sit around and wait for Canelo Alvarez to defend against a mandatory. Joshua Buatsi might be the guy who gets the voluntary defense in the Easter.”

Buatsi, like Bivol, is also a Matchroom fighter. Therefore, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Hearn stage the clash this Spring in England; the home country of the challenger.
Things are far from finalized when it comes to Bivol’s next fight. Nevertheless, Hearn is clearly plotting and strategizing for what could be coming up.
