Eddie Hearn Wants Jack Catterall To Fight For A World Title
Top junior welterweight contender Jack “El Gato” Catterall (29-1, 13KO) is ready to move toward fighting for a world title. Matchroom boxing chairman Eddie Hearn wants to match him against WBC champion Devin “The Dream” Haney or IBF champion Subriel “El Orgullo de Maternillo” Matias.
On May 25, El Gato avenged the only blemish on his resume by defeating former undisputed champion Josh Taylor by unanimous decision. After waiting two long years to get revenge for a fight that should’ve crowned him the undisputed champion, Catterall could be on the verge of competing for a world title next.
A TITLE SHOT MUST TO BE NEXT
During the post-fight interview, Taylor called for the trilogy as both fighters are even in the win category. Yet, Hearn has different plans and wants to push his fighter toward a title fight.
“The third fight is a big fight. But, he deserves to be a world champion, that’s got to be the focus. We’re deep at 140. Subriel Matias fights Liam Paro, coming up. We got Devin Haney against Sandor Martin. I’d love to see this guy challenge and rightfully win a world championship.”

Haney (31-1, 15KO) has expressed wanting to fight Martin, who’s currently ranked #1 by the WBC. If the WBC champion is victorious, that would be a good fight between two highly skilled boxers.
Matias (20-1, 20KO) has been on a path of destruction as he fights a third undefeated fighter in Paro. El Orgullo de Maternillo will be defending the title in his home country of Puerto Rico on June 15.
Catterall is ready to keep the momentum going, as he is looking to make 2024 his year.
