WBO junior lightweight champion Jamel Herring tests positive for COVID-19!
WBO Junior Lightweight champion Jamel “Semper Fi” Herring (21-2, 10KOs), who was scheduled to make the second defense of his title against veteran contender Jonathan Oquendo (31-6, 19KOs) on July 2, has tested positive for COVID-19. As a result, their fight will now be postponed.
Herring took to social media to break the news.
Herring v Oquendo was on schedule to be the main event. As of now, there’s no word of the status of the remainder of the card moving forward at this moment.
Interestingly enough, he was in camp with WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford, as well prospects Malik Hawkins and Malik Warren.
Herring’s positive test is the latest in a series for Top Rank. Recently, they had to cancel their June 16 main event between Jose Pedraza and Mikkel LesPierre after LesPierre’s manager, who was in direct contact with the fighter, tested positive.
This is very unfortunate news.
3kingsboxing.com will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.
