Richardson Hitchins Claims Being Ducked By Jack Catterall

Since outboxing and ferreting away Liam Paro’s title, IBF junior welterweight champion Richardson Hitchins (19-0, 7 KO’s) is looking to prove he is the #1 headband in the division. Yet, in true cowboy fashion, Hitchins is not too busy or above calling a fellow fighter yellow bellied. Such was the case when the vocal Brooklynite labeled Jack “El Gato” Catterall (30-1, 13 KO’s) a deserter and coward. The IBF champion harpooned Catterall with the charges while speaking with Fight Hype.

“Don’t get me started on Jack Catterall, his bum ass! He ducked me in every type of way. He was supposed to see me for the IBF eliminator! How you going to duck? He could have been fought for a world title. That’s what you call a nigga that’s doing perfect matchmaking – Jack Catterall”

“He could have been got this smoke back in April! Matter of fact, he could still make himself an IBF eliminator but you see what route he is going – the WBO! These mothafuckas be soft, I swear they be soft.”

AN UPGRADE?

For the time being though, El Gato is penciled in for a February 15, 2025 collision date with Arnold Barboza Jr. Barboza Jr is ranked #1 (WBO), #4 (IBF) and #4 (WBC). With his #1 (WBO) standing, Barboza Jr. is first in line for WBO 140-pound champion Teofimo Lopez. If being realistic, if Catterall is facing Barboza Jr., who is no pushover, to face the more highly esteemed Lopez it’s not so easy to call it a duck. Especially if Catterall collects those two scalps and title.

Given that Catterall is already contracted to an impending fight, this tough chatter is essentially just an amusing pastime. Perhaps though, maybe around mid-year 2025 this duel can be revisited again. For the meantime, let’s see if Catterall can best Barboza Jr. If not, it’s just much ado about nothing. It will also be interesting to see who Hitchins pairs with next. Like Catterall, Hitchins is also gunning for Teofimo Lopez’s WBO title.
