Richardson Hitchins Calls Teofimo Lopez A Fraudulent New Yorker

With his star on the rise, IBF junior welterweight champion Richardson Hitchins (19-0, 7 KO’s) is looking to establish himself as the division’s official top dog. Obviously, to be thorough in this endeavor, Hitchins must clear out all of his rivals. At the top of that list is WBO 140-pound champion Teofimo “The Takeover” Lopez (21-1, 13 KO’s). Of course Lopez is a top name, multidivisional champ and represents a unification bout.

Beyond that though, The Takeover is personal for Hitchins. Being the proud and boisterous New Yorker that he is, the Brooklyn native takes issue with Lopez claiming New York as his home. By his estimation, the WBO champion is a foreigner to his home metropolis and should not be allowed to perpetrate. If for nothing else but to avenge this slight toward his city, Hitchins wants a crack at The Takeover as he told Fight Hype.

“Teofimo is bad for the face of New York, bad work! Can’t do that, Teo is not from Brooklyn! Come on, you know he is not from Brooklyn, stop it! You know he is not from New York, he is not from none of the five boroughs. He is probably from Connecticut somewhere, I don’t know why he keep jacking New York”

“I was cool with Teo, but he keep jacking the town and I don’t like him . . . bro is trying to use the town so we could big him up, back him up when he comes to New York, get the New York fans, make him look good – no, we don’t so that. When you from New York, you different. He don’t even talk shit the right way! Like how can he be from New York? Have you ever heard Teofimo talk shit? Bad work! He just got his loud ass daddy in the back!”

WE IN OR OUT?!

According to Hitchins, it appears as if the cards are falling in his favor. If events unfold as presently scripted, then Hitchins and Lopez will clash some time in 2025. Without question this is a solid matchup that pits the old guard against a sturdy young lion. The clash of Hitchins’ hyper-strict boxing versus Lopez’s more athletically flamboyant fighting would be fun to watch play out in the ring.

Presently, neither pugilist has any plans on the books, so now is as good a time as any to mix it up! The Takeover’s reputation as of late has taken a sobering beating. A solid, earnest victory over the over rising talent would go a long way to helping mend Lopez’s stock value. A win for Hitchins would solidify his place among the elite and praise to his New York homeland.

Whether Teofimo Lopez is a genuine New Yorker or not, Lopez versus Hitchins in NYC is a big fight. Let’s hope this situation is not just a bunch of reckless lip flapping and this fun scrap is actually contracted.

“Teofimo definitely got to see me and I was just on Facetime with him the other day too, and he said he was going to fight me next year, 2025. So that is what Teofimo Lopez said. He said that, he said he is fighting me. He said this is the fight that boxing needs, so let’s see if him and his big ass nose is lying because if he is lying, I am going to be mad!”
