Naoya Inoue vs. Juan Carlos Payano set for October 7 in Yokohama
3KingsBoxing previously reported on a special boxing exhibition that was held by current WBA “regular” Bantamweight champion Naoya Inoue held at the Sangyo Hall in Kanazawa Japan.
After that exhibition, Inoue (16-0, 14 KOs) disclosed that his upcoming WBSS Bantamweight tournament bout against Carlos Payano (31-1, 14 KOs) would take place in October, and nothing more.
Inoue officially announced the details of his upcoming bout at a Tuesday press conference in Tokyo. He will battle Payano on October 7th at the Yokohama Arena in Yokohama, Japan.
During the press conference Inoue said:
“First of all, I never thought that my fight in the great WBSS event will be held in Yokohama. I feel pride that I will be able to have action in Yokohama as the first Japanese participant in WBSS; where I will have to submit a maximum pugilistic performance- in search of a knockout in my favor so that Japanese boxing will collect more enthusiasm with fireworks.”
There was no word on what other fights would be part of the Inoue – Payano card. Rumors abound of a WBSS Super-Lightweight clash between Kiryl Relikh and Eduard Troynovsky also taking place. Relikh’s record is 22-2 with 19 KOs, while Troynovsky is 27-1 with 24 KOs.
3KingsBoxing will keep you updated on any further developments.
