Higa/Fuentes February 4th In Japan
WBC Flyweight champion Daigo Higa is set to face former WBO minimumweight champion Moises Fuentes on February 4th in Japan.
Higa, 14-0 14KO, has been impressive so far in his brief career while winning the title in his twelfth fight. He defeated Juan Navarrete in May of this year by sixth round TKO to win the WBC belt. He most recently defended his title against Thomas Masson back in October.
Fuentes, a former WBC youth champion as well as the WBO title he held, is best known for a draw he received against Filipino star Donnie Nietes. He lost a title bid against Japan’s Kosei Tanaka last New Year’s Eve and then suffered a majority decision loss to journeyman Ulises Lara in July but revenged that loss by first round KO in October. After the return win against Lara Fuentes believes he is ready for fight his opportunity.
“Daigo is a strong boxer, we know him and his record speaks for itself, I have real power, but I’m convinced that we have a great chance to win, so we’re very motivated. I was WBC World Youth Champion, and I am flattered, happy, and honored to fight for the World Boxing Council belt. I want to give special thanks to WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman.”
