Jarrett Hurd Returning and Wants The Top Dogs of The Division
Former unified junior middleweight champion Jarrett “Swift” Hurd (24-2, 16KO) is planning a return to boxing at middlweight and is targeting WBC champion Jermall Charlo (32-0, 22KO), WBO champion Janibek Alimkhanuly (13-0, 8KO), and unified champion Gennady Golovkin (42-2-1, 37KO).
Swift was once on top of the world after becoming a unified champion by defeating then-WBA champion Erislandy Lara by a split decision in 2018. However, he would lose the belts to Julian Williams in a twelve-round beat down the following year.
In his last outing, Swift suffered another defeat attempting to test the waters at middleweight against Luis Arias in June 2021. Hurd hinted at returning to boxing in 2022 with a social media post. At the time, he said he needed to take some time off.
HURD IS READY TO TAKE ON THE TOP DOGS OF THE DIVISION
Hurd remained MIA throughout 2022 and is looking to return to the sport with new trainer Andrew Counsel. During an interview on Premier Boxing Champions Podcast, the former champion was very candid about wanting Charlo and going for undisputed.
“That’s exactly who I want. I want big Charlo, I want Janibek and GGG. If you still around by the time I get the other ones, let me get GGG. The goal is still the same – unify, unification, and undisputed. That’s the same goal.”
Hurd is not ranked by any of the governing sanctioning bodies as of right now. In order to accomplish those goals, he must get back in the ring and begin the journey back to the top of the mountain.
