Luis Nery Battles Azat Hovhannisyan On February 18 in a WBC Eliminator
In a WBC title eliminator, the organization’s top two contenders, Luis “Pantera” Nery (33-1, 25KO) and Azat “Crazy A” Hovhannisyan (21-3, 17KO), will fight on February 18. The victor of this fight could face the winner between unified champion Stephen Fulton versus Naoya Inoue.
Golden Boy Promotions will broadcast this event live on DAZN at the Fox Theater Pomona in Pomona, California.
This is a good fight between two fan-friendly, pressure fighters. In 2021, two-divisional champion Nery hit the news cycle for leaving famous trainer Eddy Reynoso. Following his departure, Pantera suffered his first career-defeat by knockout against then-WBA Regular champion Brandon Figueroa in May 2021.
In a WBO and WBC title eliminator, he climbed back into title contention after handing Carlos Castro the first defeat of his career by a split decision in February 2022.
Crazy A has been on a roll since losing the only title shot of his career against two-divisional champion Rey Vargas in 2018. He has won seven straight fights and gained high-ranking positions in all four major sanctioning bodies.
In his last outing, Hovhannisyan demolished Dagoberto Aguero on April 2022. The Armenian has proven to have a beard by never being knocked out, which may serve him well against a hard puncher in Nery. In addition, Crazy A has knocked out six of his last seven opponents.
The boxing community can expect fireworks as both fighters will undoubtedly be looking for the knockout, with a major opportunity at stake.
