Jermall Charlo’s Arrest May Signal Another Extended Hiatus
Well it appears that the parade of misfortune that has become WBC middleweight champion Jermall “Hit Man” Charlo (33-0, 22 KO’s) continues to march along. In the most recent entry of setbacks, according to TMZ, Charlo was arrested Monday night in Texas after allegedly crashing his Lamborghini while under the influence of alcohol.
To make matters worse, Hit Man is accused of getting into an accident with regular citizens before leaving the scene and ultimately taking the police on a short chase. In addition, he is no longer the WBC champion following news the organization has stripped him of the title.
BARRELING INTO HOME?!
Unfortunately, this appears to be the official unraveling of Jermall Charlo as a fighter. During the two years that Charlo languished on the sidelines, scores of people began writing Hit Man off. His overall reclusiveness and random drunken social media posts did not improve the optics whatsoever. His cold-oatmeal return performance against Jose Benavidez Jr., this past November 25, certainly didn’t leave the fanbase hungry for more.
Charlo would then suffer another social media catastrophe. After initially taunting rival Caleb Plant, Charlo found himself the recipient of a sobering palm-handed slap. To make matters worse, the entire scene was caught on tape and has been well circulated on-line. When last seen before this run-in with law enforcement, Charlo was a mixed bag – apologizing to Plant, promising a fall showdown with Canelo and openly speculating retirement.
If Charlo is going to retire, he should do so now and continue seeking the help it appears he still needs in his personal life. If this is simply a case of getting a bad wrap by people on the outside looking in, then Hit Man needs to straighten up his visuals and social media posts in a hurry! Judging by the writing on the wall though, another significant hiatus may be what’s next on the menu!
