Could We See Jermall Charlo Fight on DAZN?

During an interview on the podcast “SI with Chris Mannix”, Bill Wanger, Head of Programming and Scheduling and PBC’s point person at Fox was asked about the future of WBC World Middleweight champion Jermall Charlo (29-0, 21 KO’s). Wanger gave a very interesting and eye-opening response.

“Al (Haymon) is taking care of Jermall, and putting him on a path where he might not be on our platforms for the next few fights, but he will come back”.

This is an eye-opening development. First off, Charlo is under the PBC banner. The other major players at middleweight (Canelo Alvarez, Gennady Golovkin and Demetrius Andrade) all fight for DAZN. By consequence, up until now, this setup froze Charlo out, unable to land fights against the best in the division.

Given Wanger’s comments detailing the behind the scenes work from Haymon, this means the 29-year-old cannot only actively seek the big fights he desires against the best in the division, he can do so without being bounded by network obligations. In short, Al Haymon is giving the WBC champ the ability to show and prove he’s the best middleweight in the world.

Charlo has an upcoming title defense against Dennis Hogan on December 7 at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn on Showtime. Assuming he wins, the doors are now open to set up a fight against the likes of Alvarez, Golovkin, and Andrade on DAZN in 2020.

This is not only a bold move by Haymon and PBC, but it’s also an indicator of the confidence they have in one Jermall Charlo.
