Jermell Charlo Not Concerned with Jumping Two Divisions
This September 30, undisputed super welterweight champion Jermell “Iron Man” Charlo (35-1-1, 19 KO’s) is daring to be great. The fiery pugilist will accomplish this task by leaping up two weight divisions to take on undisputed super middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (59-2-2, 39 KO’s). Naturally there are a great many minds who feel that Canelo has the clear size and experience advantage and therefore should prevail on fight night.
Unsurprisingly, Charlo couldn’t care less about what those on the sidelines have to say about his chances. When asked about this matter at the first official presser, Iron Man was only too happy to elaborate.
“It was a no-brainer to make that happen. Yeah, we both got mandatories, we both got different things, but to hell with that when you got something as big as this that you know you could show the world of boxing, and give the world of boxing such a performance!”
“So I am going to get in there and train my ass off, I’m going to fight my ass off, I’m going to be intelligent. I know that I am moving up two weight divisions, who cares?! Who gives a damn? That don’t stop how I get in there and do it and the way that I do it. So I am excited for this moment.”
QUIET IN THE CHEAP SEATS!
With increasing frequency, it seems that fighters of this latest generation are not solely concerned with their legacy or even fighting for championship belts. Instead, popularity and financial gain are oftentimes payment enough. Although he has been handsomely paid over the course of his career, Charlo is sliding through the ropes for more than a check. For Iron Man, his date with the red head is more about solidifying his greatness as well as flipping the bird to his naysayers.
“I just really want to quiet my haters, quiet my doubters and turn non-believers into believers.”
In the end however, whether win, lose or draw, Charlo is prepared to take the outcome on the chin. Yet, like any confident competitor, Iron Man just can’t see himself coming up short! Thankfully, no matter what the result, 3Kings Boxing will be here when all the dust settles.
