Unified female super middleweight champion Alejandra “La Tigre” Jimenez (13-0-1, 9KO) is in another big fight. Unfortunately, this particular battle involves a failed PED test for a banned substance.
However, the champion claims to be innocent and will wait for the process to run its course.
The boxing community and women boxing has taken a major blow with this news circling over social media. This couldn’t have come at a worse time, as fans were happy that the self-proclaimed G.W.O.A.T ( Greatest Woman Of All Time), former unified super middleweight, current unified junior middleweight and undisputed middleweight champion Claressa “T-Rex” Shields (10-0, 2KO) was willing to move back up and reclaim the top spot in her old division.
The former WBC heavyweight champion in Jimenez worked her way down to super-middleweight to challenge then unified champion Franchon Crews-Dezurn. Immediately following the victory she wasted little time in calling for a fight with Shields.
Shields, known for never backing down from a challenge, publicly accepted the challenge after defeating Ivana Habazin to become a three-division champion. Learning of this news, the always vocal champion posted about how she felt concerning the situation and was still willing to take the fight. (Tweet Here).
However, let’s keep in mind that there is a process that must be followed first. The fighter in question can choose to have the B-sample tested and it could come back negative similar to the Tyrone Spong situation before he was to test the heavyweight debut of former undisputed cruiserweight champion Oleksandr Usyk.
Furthermore, this isn’t the first rodeo for the WBC dealing with an investigation that resulted in them overturned a fighter’s ban. British heavyweight Dillian Whyte comes to mind!
As of right now it is yet to be revealed the name of the failed substance, but one thing is for sure, if found in violation of the WBC drug program, the unified champion may lose the opportunity of a lifetime!
