Jonhatan Cardoso Takes Split Decision Win Over Adam Lopez
In a battle of junior lightweights Jonhatan “Maximus” Cardoso (17-1, 15KO) picked up the split decision victory over veteran Adam “Blue Nose” Lopez (17-6, 6KO).
Maximus came out using the long, four-inch jab, looking to take control of the fight early. However, he was lured into a firefight as Blue Nose was successful with those hard right-hand counters.
Cardoso quickly cranked up the volume and started to come forward, throwing those short, compact shots. But Lopez refused to go away and continued to land punches by attacking at different levels.
In the middle rounds, both men continued to inflict pain on each other at high volume. Cardoso’s power punches were on full display as he landed brutal shots to the body and head that hurt the Californian.
Yet, Lopez bounced back with right-hand counters that drew blood from Maximus’ nose. In addition, he did a good job of fighting in spots and looking to steal the rounds in the closing minute.
In the closing rounds, Cardoso was too strong, as his gas tank never went empty. He landed the harder, eye-catching shots to the body and head until the final bell sounded.
One judge saw it 97-93 for Lopez as the other two saw it 99-91, and 96-94 for Cardoso. 3Kings Boxing agrees with the winner, but 99-91 was ridiculous.
