Anthony Joshua Assures He Will Eventually Fight Tyson Fury

In his last in-ring assignment, two-time heavyweight champion Anthony “AJ” Joshua (24-3, 22 KO’s) suffered his third professional loss. This defeat came by way of a split decision to unified champion Oleksandr Usyk. Surprisingly, AJ was quickly offered the opportunity to fight undefeated WBC heavyweight champion Tyson “The Gypsy King” Fury (32-0-1, 23 KO’s). The notion of seeing an all UK heavyweight showdown was warmly accepted by a jubilant boxing community.

Sadly however, the prizefight would never come to fruition. Remaining true to his character, Fury was quick to take to social media where he called Joshua a slew of dosser’s and other unsavory labels. Likewise, remaining true to his reputation, AJ had little to say of the derogatory manner. Now, rather than lamenting Fury, Joshua explained in a recent interview with DAZN he fully expects to still battle Fury.

“My dance partner, the last geezer I was supposed to fight [Fury], he’s a good dance partner. He handles the social media side. I think we’d do good business behind the scenes. It will happen, it will happen. Same generation, come on now.”

MORE THE SAME?

On the one hand, it’s good to hear that Joshua is optimistic about this duel taking place. At the same time though, this positive thinking does not seem to be anchored by anything in reality. Over the years, Fury has repeatedly denigrated Joshua’s name and overall boxing ability.

Said to say, there is no inherent reason to believe that these two will fight simply because they are in the same era. By that logic, they have always been in the same era and not fought, so what is different now? By the same token, Joshua and Deontay Wilder are in the same ‘generation.’ Not only that, there was a great push to see Wilder versus AJ. And in that scenario, there were extended talks between the two camps only for things to fall apart for no good reason. So will Joshua and Fury be any different? So far, the answer is no.

In the end ,we will all just have to wait and see how these zany boxing politics play themselves out. Luckily, no matter what transpires, 3Kings Boxing will be here to report the news!
