Joshua Greer Reflects on First Pro Loss
When bantamweight boxer Joshua “Don’t Blink” Greer Jr (22-2-1, 12 KO’s) slid through the ropes on June 16, he thought it was just the next step in his evolution. However, following ten very unexpected rounds, the Chicago native found himself absorbing his first professional loss at the hands of “Magic” Michael Plania (24-1, 12 KO’s).
Unfortunately for Don’t Blink, he was finally able to figure Plania out. However, he did not solve the mystery with enough time to salvage the win. While in front of the cameras, Greer gave all credit to his native Philippine conqueror. That night was a different story though.
“I’m a very competitive person, so that first night it really hit me hard. It was really a devastating moment for me. It was like surreal, but it really was heartbreaking and devastating for me. That next morning I woke up though, I woke up with a plan and I said I am going to get better and I woke up with a plan and automatically I’ve already started my plan and I’m already looking forward to my road to redemption.”
LOOKING BACK TO MOVE FORWARD
As any responsible fighter would, Greer Jr has already reviewed his first loss. Now, he feels that he has identified all the blunders that led to his first blemish. Having located these deficiencies, Don’t Blink is itching to get a second crack at Plania.
“I think that Mike Plania was a great learning experience for me. I made some mistakes in the fight that cost me the fight and I rallied in too late. But it’s all a good learning experience for me and it lit my flame and I’m eager and more hungry to come back and make a statement and you know just be great.”
“…I looked at that fight more than about 20 times already because that was a big heartbreaking fight for me and it made me, like I said, more eager to be stronger and get the job done the next time.
“…I don’t want to take anything from him. He did the right moment and I am looking forward to having a rematch and fixing all those mistakes and making all those adjustments early and straight through the gate.”
