Joe Joyce Calls Out Joseph Parker for Ducking Him
Top unbeaten heavyweight contender Joe “Juggernaut” Joyce (13-0, 12KOs) will be fighting for the first time in almost a year when he takes on longtime fringe contender Christian Hammer (27-9, 19KOs) on July 2. He was originally scheduled to face former WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker (30-2, 21KOs). However, the former champion backed out of the fight due to a better offer from Boxxer promoter Ben Shalom. Joyce is promoted by Frank Warren of Queensberry Promotions.
So instead he’ll face Hammer in what he hopes is a prelude to the Joseph Parker fight.
In an interview with Boxing Social, Juggernaut discussed the Hammer fight and what he expects, as well as the hopes of still fighting Parker later this year.
WARMING UP WITH HAMMER
“Yes, a good warm-up fight, and as you may know, Hammer is a tough fighter who can go the distance. So it’s a good fight and he can also bang as well, so, you know, he’s probably got a game plan to come and like wing some bombs over. So it should be a good fight. I’m going to definitely get stuck in there as usual, so it’s going to be an exciting fight and a kind of warm up for things to come and see how things turn out, work out, especially with Parker and his ducking ways.”
If Joyce wins as expected, both sides surely have to be able to meet in the middle to make this fight happen. This fight would mean big things for the winner. Joyce is ranked number one in the WBO and number two in the WBC, so a world title shot is within reach. As is for Parker, who’s ranked # 2 in the WBO and # 3 in the WBC.
But first things first, Joyce has to handle his business. After that, the hard work to make the fight happen will be on both fighters’ representatives.
