Devin Haney and George Kambosos Trade Words On Social Media
WBC lightweight champion Devin “The Dream” Haney (27-0, 15ko) has an extreme desire to fight unified champion George “Ferocious” Kambosos (20-0, 10ko). Their exchange of words on social media continues to keeps fans on the edge of their seats.
Ferocious has had a target on his back since upsetting Teofimo “The Takeover” Lopez in November 2021. That victory earned the Australian the award for Upset of the Year from 3kingsboxing. Moreover, his victory was a symbol of change as, unlike Lopez, Kambosos showed a willingness to fight for true undisputed.
WE HAVE SEEN THIS BEFORE
Now, this is not the first time the two champions have gone back and forth on social media. The unified champion posted a questionnaire asking fans to vote on who should be his next opponent. Fans had an option of picking former unified champion Vasiliy “Hi-Tech” Lomachenko, three-divisional champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis, Ryan Garcia, and Haney. With Lomachenko being the overwhelming favorite pick, Haney promptly intervened, making it known to Kambosos he is willing to pay top dollar.
“Yeah, Yeah, Yeah… we all know you want a bidding war! But you know who’s really putting up the money.”
Devin Haney, WBC lightweight champion
Kambosos would clap back by taking a shot at Haney’s offers to travel to Jupiter for the fight.
“You don’t have to go to Jupiter, brother, just 8000+ miles across the pacific, down under.”
George Kambosos Jr., unified lightweight champion
WILL THE FIGHT HAPPEN?
“We can do it in the United Arab Emirates. We can do it in America […] Hopefully, myself, Lou DiBella [CEO of DiBella Entertainment], Peter Khan [Kambosos’ manager], and Ferocious promotions can get that fight over the line.”
Eddie Hearn, Matchroom Boxing CEO
Haney seems to have grown impatient and wants to know if Kambosos will fight or flee. The Dream put those Twitter fingers to work calling out the unified champion. Furthermore, he revealed a willingness to comply with COVID-19 vaccination, which is a requirement to enter Australia.
By now, we all know how this goes. Kambosos wasted little time in responding, making it clear the only thing missing is an offer from Hearn.
