Keyshawn Davis Suspended Over Marijuana Findings in Drug Test

In a rather shocking turn of events, lightweight boxer Keyshawn “The Businessman” Davis (9-0, 6 KO’s) both had his last victory overturned to a ‘no contest’ and was suspended. The impetus of this ruling was due to it being revealed that The Businessman failed a drug test, having been flagged for trace amounts of marijuana. Naturally, this was an unfavorable development for Davis, especially since it was just formally announced that he would next face Jose Pedraza. That fight has now been scrapped.

Upon hearing this ,there will be many who dismiss this as no big deal. This is because marijuana is not a performance enhancing drug and therefore not thought to be a factor in the actual boxing contest. Not to mention, the multipurpose plant is increasingly being used for medical and legal recreational purposes every single day. Unlike cocaine, a substance that two-time super middleweight champion David Benavidez was once flagged for having in his system. At the same time, many will wonder if Davis is living the life of a fighter?

FOCUSED OR FAKING?

When assessing The Businessman as a fighter, it’s clear that the Olympic silver medalist passes the eye test and is certainly a talent to be respected in the sport. Nevertheless, no matter how talented Davis may be, living a party lifestyle consisting of smoking and drinking can quickly erode his ability to remain among the cream of the crop.

In fact, in his performance versus Nahir Albright, it could be said that this outing left a great deal to be desired. Perhaps this was just an off night, a case of performing to his level of competition, or it could have been a matter of partying too much before the fight. Only time will tell if Davis, ranked #7 (WBA), #8 (WBC), #8 (IBF) and #12 (WBC), returns to form or continues to have greater difficulty with his upcoming opposition.

The aforementioned David Benavidez successfully rebounded masterfully and is set to compete in a career-best match versus Demetrius Andrade. There is no reason that The Businessman cannot resume his quest for a title shot in strong and impressive fashion. Now we just have to see how Davis absorbs and rebounds from this new, controversial finding. Thankfully, no matter how the cookie crumbles, 3Kings Boxing will be here to keep you plugged in.
