Keyshawn Davis Wants to Challenge Undisputed Champ Devin Haney

Expectations are high for Norfolk, Virginia native Keyshawn “The Businessman” Davis (8-0, 6 KOs). The 24-year-old lightweight has progressed very nicely in the pro ranks. The 2020 Olympic Silver medalist thinks now is the time to take the next step and fight the elite in the division. That includes dreaming of fighting undisputed champion Devin Haney (29-0, 15 KOs).

“Why wait” seems to be his motto. During an appearance on The Last Stand podcast, The Businessman said he thinks now is the time to make his move.

“I don’t want no more development fights. Every single fight now, I want something that keeps me interested.”

With fighters such as undisputed champion Devin Haney, WBA Regular champion Gervonta Davis and two-division champion Shakur Stevenson, the lightweight division is one of the best divisions in the sport.

BRING ON THE CHAMP

But Davis refuses to take a backseat to anyone. He considers himself a legit contender. One man that he has a burning desire to fight is Haney.

“I want to fight Light Skin. I want to fight him . . . In terms of just him in the sport and me being competitive and he’s at my weight class . . . Light Skin, I want to fight you.

We don’t gotta fight for no belts. You can keep your belts . . . We don’t gotta fight for no fucking belts. We can just fight. The fans want to see it. Let’s just fight!”

The Virginian is coming off a ninth-round stoppage over former world title challenger Anthony Yigit on April 8. Many may view his comments about Haney as presumptuous and ambitious to a fault. Davis says he has no personal animosity towards Haney. However, they’ve taken their share of verbal shots at each other on social media.

While Davis may want to fight Haney, it will not happen in the foreseeable future. Haney has an upcoming fight against multiple-time champion Vasyl Lomachenko on May 20. If successful against Lomachenko, Haney has eyes on facing either Haney or Stevenson later this year.

Most insiders believe Davis is not ready for a fighter like Haney at this stage in his career. Both are under the Top Rank banner. It would be foolhardy for the promotional outlet to entertain that matchup right now.

But you cannot hate Davis’s ambition. Full of self-belief, he’s shooting for the star. The kid is hungry to succeed and is on the fast track.
