Keyshawn Davis Continues Prodding Teofimo Lopez for a Fight
Without question, lightweight fighter Keyshawn “The Businessman” Davis (11-0, 7 KO’s) believes that his stock is at an all-time high. When last in the ring, his fun and entertaining showdown versus Miguel Madueno has only enhanced this perception. As he has been riding the buzz of that crowd-pleasing affair, Davis has insisted more than ever that he is ready to headline his own event. With that being the case, he has once again placed his crosshairs on WBO junior welterweight champion Teofimo “The Takeover” Lopez (21-1, 13 KO’s).
The Businessman has been hot on the heels of Lopez ever since the two appeared on the same card back in February. After hearing some choice words that The Takeover said about him, Davis questioned him about the matter as the two were in earshot of a hot mic. While, to this point, Lopez has not shown much interest in this particular prizefight, it’s beyond evident that Davis is not letting it go!
TIME TO RECONSIDER?
In all honesty, while they are housed in separate divisions, this might be a duel that Lopez should want to entertain. For one, they are both Top Rank fighters and from that standpoint, it should be an easy battle to put together. Also, as Davis’ name is legitimately getting more appeal, Lopez’s is continuing to cool off. True enough, The Takeover did snag a great win on Josh Taylor to become the WBO champion back on June 10, 2023.
Unfortunately for him though, that fight was sandwiched between two remarkably poor showings against Sandor Martin and Jamaine Ortiz. In fact, it is a very common belief that he got gift decisions in both of those affairs. Even worse, while he did win, he notched another soggy, flavorless win over Steve Claggett in his last duel. Considering Claggett left his face bruised and very swollen, it didn’t help Lopez that he was virtually unknown to common boxing fans.
Now with three subpar showings in his last four fights, Lopez’s popularity and buzz is just about at an all-time low. This is why staging a fan-friendly fight versus Davis could be what the doctor ordered. He’d even get the added advantage of bringing The Businessman up to new a division that he’s had time to get acclimated in. Therefore, it’d be interesting to see if Teofimo Lopez begins showing this potential match any more attention.
