Amir Khan likely to sit out rest of the year and return in February of 2019.
Amir Khan is fresh off the heels of a hard fought unanimous decision victory over Samuel Vargas earlier this month. However, it appears that he will have to wait until next year to fight again. It’s well known that he has longed for fights with Kell Brook and Manny Pacquiao. In the case of Brook, neither fighter has been able to put egos aside to make it happen. Consequently, both guys have had to fight other opponents; devaluing their match-up due to both men suffering some devastating losses.
Now, Promoter Eddie Hearn has come out and said that unless he can reach a deal with either Brook or Pacquiao this week, it’s likely Khan will elect to wait until February of next year to return to the ring.
Kell Brook hasn’t fought since stopping Siarhei Rabchanka in March. He’s also stated recently that he’s moving back down to 147. As for Pacquiao, who defeated Lucas Matthysse in July to win the secondary WBA title, he is rumored to be in talks for a possible rematch with Floyd Mayweather.
So, with those two guys seemingly being unavailable at the moment, that leaves Khan no choice but to sit idle and continue to work towards a deal with either guy for next year.
