Price Calls For Undisputed With Mikaela Mayer or Sandy Ryan
With each passing outing, Lauren Price (9-0, 2 KOs) is approaching elite status in women’s boxing. Her next goal to achieving greatness is becoming undisputed at 147, with an eye on facing the winner of the rematch between WBO champion Mikaela Mayer and Sandy Ryan by the end of this year.
Price became the unified welterweight champion with a unanimous decision victory over Natasha Jonas. The undefeated champion believed she was better than Jonas in all facets during pre-fight interviews and backed up those boasts.
Using her pinpoint jab and blazing speed, the pride of Wales completely outboxed Jonas from the opening bell. Price put on a one-woman show in what many felt would be a competitive showdown.
READY TO CONQUER THEM ALL
In her post-fight interview with the boxing media, the 30-year-old was clear that she now has her sights on the happenings during the upcoming March 29 showdown between Mayer and Ryan.
“I would love the winner of the winner of that this year. […] honestly believe that I can become undisputed. I want to go on and create great nights of legacy. […] The winner of Mayer and Sandy, I want next.”
Her journey toward undisputed started with a flawless victory over then WBA champion Jessica McCaskill in May 2024. She must remain extremely focused with only one fight remaining before accomplishing the goal.
THEY HAVE EXTRA MOTIVIATION
Mayer (20-2, 5 KOs) captured the WBO crown with a majority decision victory over Ryan (7-2-1, 3 KOs) in September 2024. If victorious, she has the type of style that could give the unified champion some trouble. The WBO champion is an excellent boxer who fights well behind the jab and is a solid body puncher. Furthermore, she would enjoy having a significant height and reach advantage.
If Ryan regains the title, their fight will be built as a grudge match, considering she lost to Price in the amateurs. So, a chance at revenge and being crowned the best in the division is something she would jump at.
Attempting to become undisputed should be the immediate goal of Team Price. Both Mayer and Ryan have expressed a similar interest. Given that reality, there’s no stopping an ultimate showdown to become the queen of the division sooner rather than later.
