David Benavidez On Track to Face David Morrell in May!
In a bit of late breaking news, it’s been revealed that super middleweights David “Mexican Monster” Benavidez (26-0, 23 KO’s) and regular WBA 168-pound champ David “Osvary Morrell” Morrell (7-0, 6 KO’s) have agreed to face one another. According to Sampson Lewkowicz of Sampson Boxing, the two will collide this upcoming May. This will come as good news to boxing fans that have followed the on-going verbal feud between these two fighters.
“Well with David Morrell, we have a contract that, if he [Morrell] can be victorious, he will fight Benavidez in May or June!”

First however, both have their own bit of business to take care of before their showdown can become a reality. On November 5, Morrell will have to best his next opponent, Aidos Yerbossnuly (16-0, 11 KO’s). Ranked #1 (WBA), Yerbossnuly will be looking to play spoiler in his third US match, but the first in five years. Naturally, the amateur standout Morrell believes that he will be able to get through the well-traveled fighter without much issue.
While he only has seven professional matches to his name, David Morrell has proven himself to be an exemplary athlete. As evidence, he was able to capture the regular WBA strap by defeating Lennox Allen in just his third professional contest. On November 5, the accomplished southpaw will aim to continue his swift ascension in the sport.
For Benavidez, he has to get past his next foe, Jose Uzcategui, who he will rumble with in January. This will be the second time that they attempt to go to war as their first battle was nixed after Uzcategui failed a drug test. Even though Uzcategui is on a three-fight win streak since last losing to Lionell Thompson, on December 28, 2019, the Mexican Monster doesn’t foresee having any trouble. In fact, his goal is simply to beat him worse than anyone before. So let’s see if Benavidez and Morrell can successfully navigate these upcoming hurdles to keep their May fight alive!
