Teofimo Lopez schedules his third bout of 2019!
Rising lightweight prospect Teofimo Lopez is chasing the opportunity for his first world title shot by staying active!
3kingsboxing.com has learned that Lopez (13-0, 11KOs) will face fellow unbeaten lightweight Masayoshi Nakatani (18-0, 12KOs) in an IBF title eliminator on July 19.
The fight will take place at the MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Maryland.
Lopez and Nakatani rank number three and four, respectively by the IBF. This fight will determine the mandatory challenger for champion Richard Commey.
Since the number one and two positions are vacant, this explains why this bout has been dubbed as an eliminator.
If Lopez is victorious over Nakatani, gets the shot against Commey and defeats him, then a path would open for a unification bout against WBA/WBO Lightweight champion Vasiliy Lomachenko sometime in 2020.
The young fighter has been feverishly calling for a shot at the unified champion. Seemingly, the time is now for the rising prospect to get closer to Lomachenko!
