Lubin Promises Fans a Bout with Tim Tszyu Later This Year

At the current moment, we are rapidly approaching one full calendar year of inactivity for super welterweight contender Erickson “The Hammer” Lubin (26-2, 18 KO’s). Yet, let him tell it, he will return for an end-of-the-year duel versus former 154-pound champion Tim “The Soul Taker” Tszyu (24-1, 17 KO’s).

TAKES TWO TO TANGO!

Lubin is riding a two-fight win streak since last losing a bitter and all-action ninth round stoppage to Sebastian Fundora. In those two return bouts, The Hammer defeated Luis Arias by fifth round TKO and Jesus Alejandro Ramos Jr. by way of unanimous decision. Now ranked, #3 (WBA), #3 (IBF), #5 (WBO) and #6 (WBC), Lubin is itching to face Tszyu who he feels sidestepped in order to face the aforementioned Sebastian Fundora. And to Tszyu’s credit, the prizefight with Fundora was a unification bout.

Despite the Floridian’s public display of intention to face him, The Soul Taker has responded in rather disinterested fashion. Logically, there is no way to see this obvious disconnect in tone and not doubt if the duel will actually take place.

Only time will tell if this grudge match ever actually comes to fruition. But at the moment, it appears that Tszyu, ranked #1 (WBO), #4 (IBF) and #5 (WBA), will grace the squared-circle before the presently injured Lubin. So for the time being, we’ll have to see what becomes of the hand, as well as who Tsyzu announces as his next foe.
