Erickson Lubin set to face Jeison Rosario on June 26

Among an avalanche of juicy fight announcements, Showtime has unveiled one tantalizing super welterweight showdown. On June 26, Erickson “The Hammer” Lubin (23-1, 16 KO’s) will test his might against Jeison “Banana” Rosario (20-2-1, 14 KO’s). Rosario will be looking to get back in the win column following his disappointing knockout loss to WBA, IBF and WBC World Super Welterweight champion Jermell Charlo on September 26, 2020.

For those that saw the defeat, it is rather difficult to forget! Initially, Banana absorbed a seemingly inconsequential body shot. However, soon after he slumped to the floor and appeared to suffer some form of seizure. Luckily his overall health was intact but he lost his WBA and IBF Super Welterweight titles. It was his first defense of the titles that he had just won in a dog-fight with Julian Williams in his previous bout. To his credit, this will mark his third consecutive prizefight taking on top-ranked competition.

PLAYING AT REVENGE

His opponent, Lubin, also suffered a devastating loss to Jermell Charlo on October 14, 2017. There was no mystery to his loss, although it was no less memorable. After getting off to a fairly good start, Charlo crumpled The Hammer down to the canvas with a single paralyzing uppercut. Once on the mat, Lubin attempted to get up but his malfunctioning limbs could not follow orders. So rather than make it his feet, he flopped around in a quasi-fetal position until referee Harvey Dock waved the contest off.

Unlike Rosario, Lubin opted to slow walk himself back into stiffer competition. He racked up four solid wins before taking on and defeating Terrell Gausha on September 19, 2020. Provided that Lubin is successful, and looks good against Rosario, he will be seriously be gunning for a revenge match with Charlo. Lubin is armed with the WBC #1 super welterweight position, right under the unified super welterweight champion, Jermell Charlo. This makes his play at vengeance a very realistic aspiration. Yet, first things first. Before he can attempt a shot at full redemption, he must topple Jeison Rosario on June 26!
