Erickson Lubin Wants to Face Interim Champions Mendoza and Adames
In his last match, super welterweight boxer Erickson “The Hammer” Lubin (25-2, 18 KO’s) breathed a bit more life into his career. He accomplished this by stopping Luis Arias in the fifth round of their recent grudge match. Since the prizefight, Lubin remained focused on his goal of a world title and quickly called out Interim WBC super welterweight titlist Brian Mendoza (22-2, 16 KO’s) and Interim middleweight champion Carlos Adames (23-1, 18 KO’s).
TAKING ALL COMERS
Lubin was especially happy with his victory because it helped rinse the taste of his stoppage loss to Sebastian Fundora from his mouth. Yet, if we are being honest, Luis Arias has never been a world beater. Nevertheless, Lubin is ranked #6 (WBC) and in prime position to get a shot at revenge at #4 (WBC) ranked Fundora. Fundora himself was recently stopped by Mendoza, making this an interesting triangle.
Calling for Adames is a bit more off the beaten path, but clearly The Hammer is confident he can move up and cause some ruckus at middleweight once again. It was well back in 2019, against Ishe Smith, that Lubin last fought as a 160-pounder.
Adames is fresh off his own ninth round stoppage of Juilan Williams. With WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo llikely heading to a showdown with undisputed super middleweight Saul “Canelo” Alvarez however, it’s unlikely that Adames is getting a shot at his WBC title any time soon. Yet, is it any more likely that the Dominican fighter will grant Lubin a title shot?
No matter what is next for Lubin, 3Kings Boxing will be here to report the latest developments.
