Luis Alberto Lopez Plows Through Reiya Abe
In a showdown for the IBF featherweight title, Luis Lopez (30-2, 17KO) overpowered and dominated challenger Reiya Abe (25-4-1, 10KO) for his fourth successful title defense!
Lopez came out in attack mode and never allowed Abe to use the height and reach advantage. He did a good job of applying pressure and landing combinations. In round two, the Mexican landed a punishing left hand that caused Abe’s eye. Initially, it was thought this caused the instant swelling to the challenger’s eye, but it was later ruled to be caused by a thumb.

Throughout the entire fight, the beatdown continued as Lopez was no longer worried about getting hit, stalked Abe loading up with nothing but power shots. With Abe’s corner refusing to stop the fight, Lopez did it for them. In the eighth round, he responded to chants from the crowd and fired off a blistering combination that forced the referee to stop the fight. It was another dominating performance in a third successful title defense.
Lopez is now in line to look towards unifying his title. However, he mentioned the possibility of a move to junior lightweight. Apparently, the weight cut is becoming too much for him.
