Mark Chamberlain vs Sam Noakes Emerges as Likely for 2024
British lightweight Mark “Thunder” Chamberlain (14-0, 10 KOs) views 2024 as the year he moves his career to the next level. He hopes that opportunity comes in a potential battle against countryman and fellow undefeated 135-pounder Sam Noakes (11-0, 11 KOs).
Chamberlain is fresh off a tenth-round stoppage over what proved to be a tough Artjoms Ramlavs at York Hall in London, England on November 24. The word in British boxing circles is that next up for Chamberlain is a domestic showdown against Noakes. Following his victory over Ramlavs, Chamberlain said the following when asked about possibly fighting Noakes:
“He’s on his path, and I’m on mine. If he wants it, he can get it, simple as that.”
A POTENTIAL BATTLE OF UP-AND-COMERS
Chamberlain is the reigning IBF Intercontinental lightweight title. Noakes is the WBC International champion at 135. His most recent fight was a second-round stoppage over Karthik Kumar in April 2023.
Thunder is a left-handed boxer-puncher, while Noakes is known for his aggressive fighting style and two-fisted power. They both fight for Queensberry Promotions. The winner would likely land in the world rankings by at least one of the four sanctioning bodies.
A battle between them would make all the sense in the world. Look for the man behind Queensberry, Frank Warren, to start working on a Chamberlain versus Noakes match in the first quarter of 2024.
