Conor Benn Volunteers to Battle IBF Champion Boots Ennis

It was not that long ago that welterweight fighter Conor “The Destroyer” Benn (22-0, 14 KO’s) was vindicated from damaging PED’s scandal. Looking to waste no time, Benn attempted to pen a fight with UK countryman Chris Eubank Jr.. While that match has yet to come to fruition, it seems that The Destroyer is now placing his crosshairs on recently crowned IBF 147-pound champion Jaron “Boots” Ennis (31-0, 28 KO’s).

I’M YOUR HUCKLEBERRY

Traditionally, Ennis has had a devil of a time trying to secure a fight with the more premier names in the division. The two champions during his welterweight tenure, Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford, felt he did not offer enough reward for the risk. Then fighters such as Keith Thurman continue to say Boots must prove more.

In a new turn of events however, Ennis was awarded Terence Crawford’s IBF 147-pound title. Perhaps this belt is the only true reason why Conor Benn is kicking up this current dust cloud. No matter what the rationale though, Boots versus The Destroyer is a solid match-up between rising welterweight stars looking to make their bones.

Not only should this make for a fun scrap on fight night, it will continue to introduce each pugilist to the other’s home country audience. For the time being however, we will just have to wait and see who these two professional face-punchers challenge next. Let’s just hope that if it’s versus one another that it is still a dangerous, worthwhile opposition.
