Hooker to move up to 147, fight with Prograis off!
A day after being told by Regis Prograis (24-1, 20KOs) that he wouldn’t budge from the original 143lb catch-weight agreement to fight Maurice Hooker (27-1-3, 18KOs) at 147, the fight is officially cancelled.
Maurice Hooker, who wanted the fight to take place at 147, admitted that making 143 would be problematic. His trainer, Brian McIntyre, confirmed the move to ESPN.
“So when the fight came up against Prograis, I figured we could make it. Then when the pandemic came, we kind of dodged a bullet right there. So I’m not going to let him go back down knowing he’s struggling, and the reality is he wasn’t going to make the weight the last time.”
This is obviously disappointing news, as this fight between Prograis and Hooker, two former world champions, would have been exciting and a huge catapult to the winner’s title prospects down the line.
Now with both fighters going their separate ways, it’s going to be interesting to see who each man lines up across the ring from in their next fights.
3kingsboxing.com will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.
