Michael Coffie uppercuts his way to second round KO win over Darmani Rock!
In a battle of unbeaten heavyweight prospects, somebody’s “0” had to go! Michael Coffie (11-0, 9KOs) and Darmani Rock (17-0, 12KOs) would meet to see who would take that next step.
After a relatively quiet first round, the action would pick up. Coffie, who is 34, would start to get in a rhythm and almost play possum with the aggressive Rock by allowing himself to be pushed back against the ropes. In doing so, he was getting Rock to open himself up to body shots and left uppercuts.
Later in the second round, Coffie would take a half step back and land a beautifully placed left uppercut that sent Rock face-first to the canvas. Rock would rise, slowly beating the count. However, he would not be on his feet for long after Coffie landed a short left hook that sent Rock down again; this time for good.
This was a major setback for the 24-year-old from Philadelphia. His record drops to 17-1, 12 KOs, while Coffie’s record improves to 12-0, 9 KOs. A late bloomer to the sport, Coffie has some intrigue after this performance and is worth keeping an eye on moving forward.
