Mikey Garcia vs Robert Easter Jr, Jan. 27th on Showtime

Garcia/Easter Jr Set?

Mikey Garcia vs Robert Easter Jr appearstobe set forJanuary 27thon Showtime Boxing. We reported a possible unification fight betweenthe WBC, Garcia, and Easter Jr, IBF lightweight champions around two weeks ago.

The termsof deal were not disclosed but it has been rumored by several media outlets that Garcia is set to receive as a high as a $3 million guarantee for this fight. Garcia took some ridicule from fans for turning down an unification fight with WBA and Ring magazine champion Jorge Linares early last week. Linares’ team offered Garcia a 50-50 split and were willingto promote the event. If the guarantee is as high as rumored forthisfightwiththe Toledo, Oh native then it is completely understandable.

Garciais coming off a one-sided unanimous decision victoryover Easter Jr promoter, Adrien Broner. The Oxnard native moved upto the 140lb division to fight Broner but has expressed his desireto stay at lightweight.

Easter Jr on the other hand is comingoff a somewhat controversial decision against Denis Shafikov earlierthis year. He has been shown interestin a possible unification with oneofthe other champions inthe division and now he gets his chance.

The fight itself is an interestingfight in which Easter holds almost allthe physical advantages whereas most feel the technical advantage goesto Garcia. No matter who wins I’m sure most fans can agree, more unificationfights to kick off 2018 is a great wayto start.
