David Morrell Crushes Falcao; Bektemir Melikuziev Dominates Rosado
WBA Regular champion David Morrell (9-0, 7KO) made quick work of Yamaguchi Falcao (24-2-1, 10KO) in one round. Moreover, he became the first person to stop Falcao, who was a replacement for Sean Agbeko.
If you are coming back from the bathroom or went to get something from the fridge, you are walking back to a replay. Morrell’s power crushed the Brazilian bronze medalist with a knockdown before landing a counter-right hook that dropped Falcao to the canvas where he laid motionless. The Cuban sensation delivered on the big stage as the co-main event of Gervonta Davis versus Ryan Garcia.
After making the fifth successful defense of the title, Morrell wasted no time in calling out two-time WBC champion David Benavidez, who was in attendance. Boxing fans are ready for an explosion when these two meet in the ring.
BEKTEMIR MELIKUZIEV EASILY AVENGES LOSS TO GABRIEL ROSADO
Super middleweight contender Bektemir “The Bully” Melikuziev (12-1, 9KO) avenged the sole blemish on his resume in the rematch against veteran Gabriel Rosado (26-16-1, 15KO).
In 2021, Melikuziev, after controlling the majority of the fight against Rosado, was hit by a punch that put him out for the count. He made sure not to repeat the same mistake in this fight. The Uzbekistani came out in control by landing straight left hands on the face of Rosado, who was gun-shy the entire fight.
Melikuziev lived up to his nickname as he did whatever he wanted, from landing the straight left hand to vicious hooks to the body that hurt Rosado several times in the fight. As the fight continued, it became painfully obvious that Father Time caught up with the 37-year-old Rosado. The final bell sounded and all three judges saw it 99-91 in favor of Melikuziev. 3Kings Boxing agrees with the judges. Rosado should consider hanging up the gloves after this performance.
ELIJAH GARCIA SCORES VICTORY OVER KEVIN SALGADO ZAMBRANO
Middleweight prospect Elijah Garcia (15-0, 12KO) remains undefeated after beating Kevin Salgado Zambrano (15-2-1 10KO) via unanimous decision.
This fight was a tale of two halves. Zambrano controlled the early portion of the fight with the jab by coming forward and applying pressure on Garcia. He even had success going to the body, taking advantage of his opponent’s slow start. Zambrano would get deducted one point for a low blow in the seventh round.
Garcia came alive in the second half of the fight with crisp combination punches that put Zambrano on the backfoot. He couldn’t miss with the straight right hand that continuously cracked his opponent’s jaw. Both fighters had moments down the stretch as the final bell sounded. One judge had it 95-94, with two judges seeing it 97-92 in favor of Garcia. 3Kings Boxing had it 96-93 for Garcia.
