Tim Tszyu Eyes Las Vegas for March 2024 Title Defense

Tim “The Soul Taker” Tszyu (24-0, 17 KOs) is fresh off making the first defense of the WBO junior middleweight title – a twelve-round decision over Brian Mendoza on October 14 in Broadbeach, Australia. Team Tszyu now has its sights set on what’s next. They’re targeting a fight in either February or March of 2024 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

COMING TO AMERICA

Following Tszyu’s victory over Mendoza, the champion’s promoter, George Rose, spoke with the Jai McAllister podcast. The CEO of No Limit Boxing wants to stage a Tszyu title defense in concert with a scheduled Australian National Rugby League (NRL) match in Las Vagas in March 2024.

“I think anytime from February or March onwards, really . . . Knowing that the NRL is going to Vegas, I think that it would be great for an Australian boxing event to be taking place in Vegas, at the same time. That makes sense to me.”

Tszyu has a goal of becoming the undisputed champion at 154. He would love for his next fight to be against unified junior middleweight champion Jermell Charlo. But that’s very unlikely to happen given Charlo’s September 30 unanimous decision loss to the reigning undisputed super middleweight champion.

Despite that reality, there are options for the 28-year-old. Possible opponents include WBO number one ranked junior middleweight Josh Kelly or a fight with former world title challenger Erickson Lubin, who is fresh off a disputed victory over Jesus Ramos on the undercard of Charlo’s loss to Alvarez.

Rose said that a final decision on Tszyu’s next fight will be sorted out over the next 30 days. Stay tuned to 3kingsboxing.com for additional updates.
