Jaime Munguia vs Brandon Cook
Another championship matchup will be taking place on the undercard of perhaps the biggest fight of 2018; Canelo Alvarez vs Gennady 2. WBO junior middleweight champion Jaime Munguia will be making his second defense of his title against Brandon Cook.
The powerful Mexican is coming off of a hard fought unanimous decision over former champion Liam Smith back in May. He’s an overwhelming favorite going into this fight with Cook. Big for a junior middleweight, Munguia figures to try and utilize his strength and size advantage.
While he’s very exciting to watch, he’s also very “hit-able”. Smith proved that in their fight. For Cook to be successful, he’s going to have to fight the perfect smart fight. The jab will be very important for both men, especially Cook. He needs to stick, move and keep the fight in the middle of the ring; make Munguia miss and counter him.
In his lone step-up fight, Cook got stopped in the ninth round against the highly touted Kanat Islam.
Considering all that, I predict a stoppage victory for the young powerful champion. An impressive victory here for Munguia could very well put him in line to face the either one of the two main event contestants some time down the road.
