Luis Nery inks multi-fight deal with PBC and will return on the Spence vs Garcia under-card

Former WBC and Ring Magazine bantamweight champion Luis Nery has signed a multi-fight deal with Al Haymon’s PBC.

While Nery brings in Haymon as his advisor, he’ll still maintain the services of Zanfer Promotions. He’ll return on the undercard of Errol Spence vs Mikey Garcia March 16.

Nery (28-0, 22KO) at one time was a fighter on the rise! After scoring the biggest win of his career in 2017 when he stopped the then dominant Shinsuke Yamanaka, he was heralded as the next fighter to look out for.

However, he ran into problems after the first Yamanaka fight, testing positive for the banned substance Zilpaterol. Conversely, his B sample was tested three more times with the result being negative.

He ended up making one title defense but failed to make weight for the rematch with Yamanaka. As a result, he would be stripped of the title.

The fight went on as scheduled with the title on the line only for Yamanaka. Nery would repeat the first performance with a quicker result knocking him out in the second round.

Ironically, controversy would strike again against the same fighter as he would fail another test shortly after the rematch. This put Nery into relative obscurity.

He would go on to fight his last two bouts in Mexico. His most recent outing came in December where he stopped Renson Robles in the seventh round.

Will this signing allow Nery to reclaim the buzz he had that diminished so quickly? Before that question can be answered, he needs to make sure he stays clean!
