Jacob Ng Suffers First Career Defeat After Slamming Billy Dib!

On March 19, across the globe, a popular fighter favorited to win the biggest challenge of his career suffered his first defeat bizarrely. Rising Australian lightweight Jacob “The Flamingo” Ng (15-1, 11 KO’s) got himself disqualified after slamming fellow Australian Billy Dib (48-6, 27 KO’s) to the canvas out of frustration.

Ng is a rising prospect ranked #10 IBF and #11 WBO. This year was supposed to be when the team steps it up in competition for the young talent. The Flamingo was already racking up the accomplishments, grabbing the IBF International and WBO Oriental divisional titles in 2019. Even during the 2020 global pandemic, he squeezed in a fight that saw him get up off the canvas, only to stop Hunter Ioane in the fifth round.

Fighting out of the famed Matrix Boxing Gym, Ng was also a trainer working alongside his father Stephen Ng. As previously mentioned, the team was looking to step it up, and fighting an elder former champion is typically used as a measuring stick for young fighters. Thus, explaining the fight with the 36 -year-old former champion.

Dib is battle-tested opposition. He has experience at the championship level and has shared the ring with former champions Takashi Miura, Tevin Farmer, and Amir Khan. Moreover, he came in off a fourteen-month layoff.

WHAT JUST HAPPENED?

According to news reports, Dib expressed that retirement was something he would consider if he was unable to defeat the young fighter. Well, he can hold on to the paperwork a little longer. As the fight started, it was good a back-and-forth exchange.

Ng used that tall frame to control the fight with the jab, trying to fight at mid-range. Dib, being the crafty veteran, came forward landing sneaky shots from odd angles, and used veteran tactics to frustrate the younger fighter.

In round six, a frustrated Ng had had enough. During a clinch, when Dib went to lean on his neck, Ng lifted him and delivered a perfect WWE body slam that would make any wrestler jealous! Dib landed hard on his spine, rolling on the canvas in pain, unable to continue. The resulting disqualification delivered Ng the first defeat of his career.

In a show of sportsmanship, the two fighters did embrace once cooler heads prevailed. Ng took to social media to explain what happened and asked for a rematch after Dib heals up.
