Nick Ball Retains The Title By Stopping Ronny Rios
In a homecoming fight, the WBA featherweight champion Nick “The Wrecking” Ball (21-0-1, 12KO) successfully retained the title against Ronny Rios (34-5, 17KO).
It was Lion versus Lamb, and the lamb didn’t stand a chance. From the opening bell, The Wrecking Ball repeatedly landed hard shots against a defenseless Rios.
In round three, Rios hit the canvas after enduring a barrage of punishing shots. The only reason why the referee didn’t stop the fight was because he occasionally fired back.
Despite taking continuous punishment, the Californian landed solid body shots on the WBA champion. He began targeting a bloody nose that Ball suffered from a possible headbutt.
In the middle rounds, Rios started giving Ball trouble with combination punches. He even had the champion on the backfoot after landing a few body shots.
With his opponent showing tremendous heart, Ball was relentless and unloaded several hard shots that sent Rios out of the ring. The fight ended when Rios’s corner threw in the towel after he got back into the ring.
During the in-ring, post-fight interview, Ball expressed interest in re-matching WBC champion Rey Vargas.
