Michael Conlan’s vs Vladimir Nikitin cancelled due to injury.

3kingsboxing.com has recently learned that featherweight Michael Conlan’s (11-0, 6 KO’s) August 3 opponent has pulled out due to injury. The Belfast born boxer was slated to face Vladimir Nikitin (3-0, 0 KO’s) in a rematch of a controversial 2016Olympic match-up.

The two have remained long time adversaries since Conlan lost a highly debatable decision to Nikitin that cost him a match-up with eventual Silver medalist Shakur Stevenson.

Naturally, Conlan was eager to score some revenge on the professional level. Unfortunately, the Top Rank fighter will not get the opportunity, at least not at this point.

It’s been reported that the Russian born Nikitin suffered an injury to his bicep severe enough to require surgery.

After hearing about the injury inspired withdraw, 3kingsboxing.com reached out to a representative of Top Rank for additional information.

Unfortunately, due to the short amount of time that has elapsed since the initial notification, Top Rank had not been able to find a replacement foe.

While there is no formal substitute, at this time, there is no indication that the card will be canceled. Hopes are still high that a suitable alternative will materialize in enough time for Conlan to be a part of the card.
