Ohara Davies Ready To Fight WBA Champion Rolly Romero Next

WBA’s number-two junior welterweight contender Ohara “Two Tanks” Davies (25-2, 22KO) is next up to face WBA champion Rolando “Rolly” Romero (15-1, 12KO). Moreover, he believes that Romero shouldn’t be champion after getting some help from the referee.

The boxing community continues to discuss the injustice that took place on May 13. Ismael Barroso, a 40-year-old Venezuelan, was beating Romero before getting dropped, followed by a controversial stoppage. Fighters and pundits took to social media in outrage calling the results of the fight another example of corruption in boxing.

In fairness, Rolly admitted that the fight shouldn’t have been stopped and that Barroso should have gotten a chance to continue.

Davies was paying close attention to the fight, since he is next in line. Two Tanks wasted little time in calling Romero a coward in a series of Tweets.

The British fighter was thrown into the mix by the WBA after the organization decided to strip then-champion Alberto Puello. Puello was originally scheduled to face Romero before testing positive for a banned substance. Team Romero will not have long to enjoy the victory, as the WBA has stated the winner has 120 days to negotiate a deal with Davies, or a purse bid will be ordered.

Despite witnessing the controversial stoppage take place in Romero’s hometown of Las Vegas, Davies has no problem with going there for the fight.

Davies secured the right to fight for the title after defeating rival Lewis “Sandman” Ritson in a thrilling WBA title eliminator on March 4. The 31 year old British challenger is a live body with some pop in both hands.
