A Draw? Really?
In the main event of PBC on FOX from the Don Haskins Center in El Paso, Texas was a 12 round Welterweight bout in which Victor Ortiz (32-6-3,25KOs) & Devon Alexander fought to a majority draw (115-113 Ortiz, 114-114 2x).
The first round started slow with both men feeling each other out. In the second round Ortiz suffer a cut on his hairline and Alexander landed a couple lead rights late in the round. In the third round it seemed like Alexander was starting to find his rhythm.
The fourth and fifth round was more of Alexander boxing well and beating Ortiz to the punch. Sixth round saw Ortiz come on late landing some nice body shots towards the end of the round. At beginning of the seventh round Alexander landed a big uppercut. Ortiz came out with more urgency and pressing the action more.
In the eighth round Ortiz came out strong putting pressures on Alexander early but Alexander seemed to control the later part of the round boxing behind his jab. Both men came out in the ninth and stood in front of each other and it was Alexander beating Ortiz to the punch.
As the last three rounds went on it just seemed that Alexander was out boxing a very game Ortiz as both men left it all in the ring. In the end the judges scored it a draw but it felt like Alexander won the fight by simply being the better boxer. Will they meet again?
