Luis Ortiz Fully Aware of the Danger Andy Ruiz Poses!
On September 4, former two-time heavyweight world title challenger “King Kong” Luis Ortiz (33-2, 28KOs) will take on former unified heavyweight champion Andy “The Destroyer” Ruiz (34-2, 22KOs). This is a pivotal fight for both men, but one can argue a loss here for Ortiz could spell the end for the hard-hitting Cuban.
At 43 years old, King Kong knows he’s going to have to be much better against Ruiz than he was in his last fight against Charles Martin. In that fight, he was dropped twice before coming back to score a brutal sixth round stoppage victory.
Against Ruiz, he faces a completely different fighter. Although the former champion is the shorter man, he has fast hands and decent power, something that could trouble the aging contender. Speaking to reporters, Ortiz acknowledged how dangerous Ruiz is as an opponent.
“Andy’s very dangerous. There’s no doubt about that. He’s proved it many times over. And there isn’t a willing to get in the ring that’s not a dangerous fighter.”
Ortiz ranks #5 in the WBO, #2 in the IBF and #8 in the WBC. A win over Ruiz keeps him in the running for a third world title shot.
