Luis Ortiz Wants Andy Ruiz Next!
After a solid year of inactivity, heavyweight boxer Luis “King Kong” Ortiz (32-2, 27 KO’s) returned to the ring in the headlining bout for FOX. Not only was he half of the main event, Ortiz won by way of first round knockout. While nothing that appeared to be overly crippling landed, Alexander Flores (18-3-1, 16 KO’s) went down from a body shot and could not recover. Having such an easy night in the office, the 41-year-old boxer would like to make a quick turnaround.
Of course he would love his third opportunity to get revenge on Deontay “The Bronze Bomber” Wilder (42-1-1, 41 KO’s). The former WBC champion has defeated him twice by knockout. Yet, the Cuban knows that this fight is not likely to happen any time soon. Currently, the Bronze Bomber is chasing his trilogy fight with the current WBC world heavyweight champion Tyson “The Gypsy King” Fury (30-0-1, 21 KO’s).

Putting Wilder to the side for the time being, King Kong has now set his sights on Andy “Destroyer” Ruiz (33-2, 22 KO’s). As they are both attempting to reestablish themselves at the top of the division, Ortiz feels they are an ideal match-up. Following his bout with Flores, Ortiz chimed in a bit more on the matter. Speaking through his chief second and translator, Herman Caicedo, King Kong explained his rationale in a brief interview with Fight Hype.
KING KONG NOW TARGETING ANDY RUIZ
“I definitely want to fight right away, I want big names and I want to fight the step-up [opponents], I’d love to make it happen. I want to fight everyone who says I am ‘A’ not worthy, ‘B’ too old, ‘C’ washed up, any of those guys. But in the meantime I will take anything that the PBC and Al Haymon put in front of me and I am ready to fight tomorrow.”
“I still have a thorn in my side from losing to Wilder twice. If I could fight him thirty times, I would until I get the win. But that is not going to happen so the immediate fight that I would want is Andy Ruiz. That’s who it is now. It’s two fighters looking for get back, looking for redemption. Ruiz looking to prove he wasn’t a fluke and me proving that I still belong and I’m not too old.”
If the two were to collide, it should make for a fun crossroads bout. Neither could afford the loss; Luis most especially due to his age. In early December, Ruiz will have been out of action for one full year himself. So, he is definitely overdue to resume his own boxing career. And in terms of known, marquee names the Destroyer could certainly do far worse than Luis Ortiz!
