Manny Pacquiao wants to keep fighting top opponents
WBA regular welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao has made his desire to keep fighting clear and wants to fight top opponents.
The eight division champion claims he is looking to face “opponents bigger or the same size” after his pay-per-view bout with Adrien Broner January 19.
Since signing with PBC and Al Haymon, many throughout the boxing community believe a second fight with Mayweather can happen.
Although, rumors are circulating there’s interest in a possible fight with the winner of Errol Spence vs Mikey Garcia.
If a Mayweather rematch cannot be made, it’s logical that fights with other PBC fighters would be considered. Especially if the point is to maximize on Pacquiao’s remaining star power.
A fight with Spence, Keith Thurman or Shawn Porter would grant him his first unification bout since facing Mayweather in 2015.
Moreover, Pacquiao has only been in two unification bouts in his career (Mayweather and Juan Manuel Marquez) and failed at both bids. The Marquez bout in 2004 ended in a draw which allowed him to keep is IBF and Marquez to keep the WBA super title.
However, let’s not get too far ahead just yet as he still has to get passed Broner. Although the favorite, as many fans understand about boxing, anything can happen!
