Liam Paro Doubts the Toughness of Richardson Hitchins
On December 7, Liam Paro (25-0, 15 KOs) puts the IBF junior welterweight title at stake against mandatory challenger Richardson Hitchins (18-0, 7 KOs). The champion believes his toughness will be too much for Hitchins on fight night.
Paro won the title in his last outing, a decision win over Subriel Matias in June 2024. The win was one of the surprises of this year. Fighting in Matias’s home country of Puerto Rico, Paro put on a boxing display throughout and took the fight to the hard-hitting Puerto Rican in the championship rounds.
NOTICING SIGNS OF WEAKNESS
Hitchins earned this title opportunity with a decision victory over Gustavo Lemos in an April 2024 IBF eliminator. During an exclusive interview with the media outlet YSM Sports, Paro said that training camp has been excellent for this upcoming title defense. When asked if there’s anything that he can take advantage of against Hitchins, the champion said the following:
“He doesn’t like a fast-paced fight. He doesn’t like a dog fight, and anyone who knows Liam Paro knows that’s what I’m about. So, we’re going to see on December 7 if that self-belief is there within himself.”
The mandatory challenger comes into this contest with some question marks. In his fight against Lemos, Hitchins was buzzed occasionally. At times, the 27-year-old struggled to deal with Lemos’s work-rate.
Some of Paro’s best attributes are his discipline and physical conditioning. The 28-year-old is a better boxer, a more accurate puncher, and has a tighter defense than Lemos. You can understand why Paro’s confidence is sky-high. A fighter at his physical peak, he feels he will inflict all kinds of damage on Hitchins and retain the IBF title.
